Congratulations to the 2018 Seedling Fund recipients! We’re excited to announce the results of the community voting with All Saints Preschool receiving $4,051; St Paul’s School Parents and Friends Association $8,129; and Calderwood Christian School Parents and Friends $6,220. Adding to the good news, Lendlease donated an additional $3,000 to Albion Park Crows Junior AFL Club due to their excellent application.
The Seedling Fund is an initiative of Sprout Hub Calderwood Valley which reinvests 10c from every dollar spent at the Hub cafe back into community initiatives through local groups and clubs.
The two finalists received a base grant of $1000, and community voting help determined how the remaining funds were divided. The Seedling Fund is aimed at supporting community initiatives, projects and activities that help make Calderwood Valley a great place to live. It’s a great opportunity to get involved and learn more about these local groups, as well as the initiatives the Seedling Fund will help support.
Stayed tuned for more news of the great initiatives both finalists will be using the funds for.
Calderwood Christian School Parents and Friends
Cyber Safety for our Community
Calderwood Christian School, a Prep to Year 12 school located within the Calderwood Valley, will use the Seedling Fund grant to deliver an open community seminar focused on educating both parents and children on cyber safety. The session, covering timely topics such as cyber bullying, parenting advice, crime and security will be conducted by local police officers and cyber parenting experts. As part of the program, the school will produce a booklet for participants featuring cyber security tips to help equip both parents and students with the tools to be able to best protect their family whilst navigating social media, the internet and the digital world.
St Paul's School Parents and Friends Association
Shading Our Future- Providing Year Round Shade to Our Front Playground
St Paul's Catholic Primary School Parents and Friends Association has been working together with the school’s leadership and community stakeholders over the past three years to raise funds to build a shade sail structure to cover the school’s entire front playground area. The shaded area will allow year-round access to this large area for educational and extracurricular activities for the school’s children and families, as well as the wider community. The area is utilised for the majority of school activities including assemblies, sports activities and community events. The Seedling Fund grant will be consolidated with funds the school community has raised to date to be able to erect this shade sail.
All Saints Preschool
Multimodal Learning towards Big School!
All Saints Preschool is an early childhood education centre providing learning opportunities for children in the Calderwood Valley. With the aim to create a more engaging and inclusive learning environment, as well as prepare students for their further education, the preschool will be using the funding to purchase a Smart Board. The technology will allow the preschool to add new dimensions to their curriculum and enable more interactive learning experiences. The Smart Board will also be utilised in a community event run by All Saints Preschool to promote the continuation of local Aboriginal culture, simultaneously strengthening the school’s connection with the wider community.
Albion Park Crows Junior AFL Club
Saving a Crow's life
The Albion Park Junior AFL Club aims to promote and foster the game of Australian Rules Football, as well as to teach and emphasise the principals of teamwork, fitness and good sportsmanship while providing fun and socially engaging atmosphere. With a large community of players, volunteers, spectators and visitors, the wellbeing of the community is a priority. The Club applied to the Seedling Fund to purchase a defibrillator, a critical life saving device in the case of a heart attack. The defibrillator will be accessible to other groups using the Club’s Croome Road home ground, and benefit from the piece-of-mind and safety of having the life-saving piece of equipment on stand-by. This project is not a Seedling Fund finalist but due to the excellent application, has been supported directly by Lendlease.
